Empty Bottles of August 2014::Part One

I've been watching lots of review videos on YouTube lately, among other things that I honestly have no technical knowledge to even begin a review on them, so I'm going to go start blogging about things that I can actually talk even quasi-intelligently about.

One of the things I don't like about the review vlogs on YouTube is that they seem to have a very monochromatic vocabulary. Most of the words that make up their videos are a certain group of the same words, and it makes the entire thing sound like my old elementary school essays where I say the same thing over and over again to not only deliver the intended message (futilely, of course), but to also fill up the page with redundancy. These people do the same thing, except they're filling up seconds on a video, not space on a paper.

These are words I've said in person before (so if you know me, you know that I say these words like a life motto), but I figure I can say them again and again whenever I want because SURPRISE SURPRISE, it's my blog. Not yours. Mine. So that being said, I always say that I believe in the power of words over pictures. I mean, sure, there are probably things that I could describe better if I provided a picture, or even a video, of a review. But I believe that words are powerful enough to get my point across.

But let's move on. I'm rambling. I'm sorry.

I'm starting to review nearly everything that I've been using, because everyone has their own opinion of everything, and I've recently taken into consideration that I'm someone, too! I can make my own reviews and maybe people will read my posts. (But really, I'm just doing this to stretch my writing muscles, so don't mind me)

Let's start off with a lotion that I finished yesterday, which is the Bath and Body Works Body Lotion in Mango Mandarin. I got this from a box my aunt from Canada sent over, probably because the original recipients didn't like the scent or whatever. It probably made them feel too "Pinoy" because of the mango scent, so off to us that goes! But I'm not going to rant about that. Not my problem to solve. Moving on to the review.

That's what the bottle looks like. Obviously I wouldn't be uploading my own picture of this because frankly, I don't have the hard drive space to store all the pictures of things I'm going to review from now until the day I get tired of doing these things.

What I really like about the lotion is that the scent of it doesn't smell like a conventional "fruity" lotion where it would really just hit your nose and go straight up into your brain like someone drove a knitting needle up your nostril. A knitting needle of pure faux-fruity scent. NO. This lotion has a very pleasant smell to it; it's sweet, but not saccharine that you don't want to smell it anymore let alone put it on your skin. And when you apply it, it doesn't take a painstakingly long time for your skin to absorb it. Actually, from all the lotions I've used in the past few years, this would probably be the best one I've used so far in terms of its smell, the way my skin absorbs it, and how soft it makes my skin afterwards.

Lucky for me, Bath and Body Works can be found damn near anywhere these days in the Philippines. Unfortunately, though, they're crazy expensive here no matter where I look. The cheapest I would find would be online through Instagram sellers, but I have trust issues, so I don't like giving anyone my home address even for the sake of saving money. My mom said she'd buy me more, though, when I finish all the other lotions at home, which won't be a problem because I'm fat and huggable, and therefore have more skin to put lotion on.

Next is a bottle that I had to throw away because I've been using it since 2010 and I'm almost 100% sure that I shouldn't have been doing that. It's the Nivea Angel Star Body Lotion. Don't get me wrong; I loved this lotion and its scent, it's just that I was so lazy to put lotion on before, so I never really got to use it as much as I should have. Don't tell on me, please. I got this by myself after Nivea had a demonstration in my high school back in the same year I bought it.

Look at that. Look at that bottle and tell me that the teenage girl in you doesn't want to buy that from just the image. I dare you. I double dare you.

Back when it was new, my skin absorbed the lotion fast enough. It wasn't as fast as the Bath and Body Works, but it was fast enough that I didn't stand in my underwear for thirty minutes waiting for it to dry. I loved the raspberry scent because it wasn't overpowering and it made me feel really girly and young, whereas the Bath and Body Works lotion has this certain air of "woman" to it and makes me feel every single moment of my twenty years of life. This one makes me feel younger than I am, which works for my friends because they're still in their teens and they think I'm this weird entity now that I'm twenty. Guys, it's not a big deal. Seriously.

This lotion, I'm not sure if I could still get this anywhere, but I sure will try. If I find it, for sure I'm going to repurchase this. Hopefully I won't make it sit on my shelf for four years again because that's just wrong. You can buy this in Watson's, or (I'm not sure, so don't quote me on this) in supermarkets near you.

Last but not least is the Softsoap Moisturising Body Wash in Berry Blend. Like the first lotion I posted, it was given to us probably because the original giftees didn't like the scent. So thanks, other people! We appreciate the soap!

The other bottle was also gifted to us, but my mom and dad used that one up. This soap's scent reminds me of childhood. Why? Well, because back in the times when using those Disney character-themed soaps didn't seem like immaturity on my part, this is the smell I would always have for hours on end. It smells almost exactly like those kiddie soaps that I miss so much. The only thing I don't like very much about these soaps is that, even for a soap, it's super slippery that it just glides off the skin and doesn't really do a good job of cleaning, in my opinion. I have to really scrub hard with a sponge so that it would get some of the job done, and even then all that happens is some really red skin. Red and somewhat clean skin. Even after that, I still find myself putting some other body scrub and applying it by hand (and that gets the job done so much better) before I can tell myself that I've truly cleaned my skin.

So if you want a soap that smells like childhood but doesn't really clean, per se, sure get this. But make sure to have another soap handy and apply that other one first, and then apply this one (kinda like a skin conditioner, I guess, haha) so that you can get the childhood smell with your clean skin.

And that's all that I've emptied out so far for this month. Maybe I'll finish something else before the end of the month. Maybe not.

Anyways…
